Michael & Katie - Sounds Good!

May 15th, 2008 by Brian

One of our goals this year was to really up the quality of the audio that we capture for our videos. We have found it to be much more work but the pay-off is huge.

At the end of April we had the privilege of filming Michael and Katie’s wedding in Cleveland. Both of their families were great to work with and have so much talent and life.

Katie really wanted us to capture a few things in particular. Her cousin was leading the brass quintet that was providing the music for the ceremony so she wanted as much of that audio incorporated into the video as possible. Katie’s brother, an amazing pianist, was going to be playing his toast at the reception so we wanted to capture good audio from that as well.

The video clip below is actually three excerpts from Michael and Katie’s final video. I post them not so much for the visual content but rather so you can hear the amazing audio. All of the audio used in both clips was recorded during the day and then edited into the final product.

Let me know what you think.

Friday’s Favorites - Chipotle

May 11th, 2008 by Brian

Most times if you ask people about their favorite restaurant, the answer will have a French sounding name. It will be rated “five stars” with well known chefs, and hard to pronounce dishes with ingredients that only culinary institute graduates (and Susy) will be familiar with.

For me, it’s Chipotle.

I was introduced to this glorious culinary delight about 5 years ago in Cincinnati by my friend Justin Golden. I have craved it ever since.

Susy and I usually split (yeah, the burritos are that big) a chicken burrito with black beans, rice, corn salsa, and cheese. We also share a bag a chips and a side of guacamole. With a drink the total comes to around $9. You can even order on-line and pick it up in the store.

Maybe not very “high brow” but in my opinion, it gets 5 stars.

Hot List Top 5

I just wanted to thank everyone for voting for us on the My Fox Cleveland Hot List. Last year we were honored to be in the top 5. We achieved the same honor for the Akron-Canton Hot List.

Friday’s Favorites - Documentaries

April 18th, 2008 by Brian

Documentaries. Some people hate them… we happen to love them.

I am not sure if it is because our style of videography borders on documentary or what the reason but Susy and I love a good documentary. Half of the time we end up commenting on the great camera angles and interesting shots. The best documentaries tell a complete story and draw you in. You feel invested in what is being explored. You may even shed some tears as the story unfolds.

If you have a Netflix account, queue up a few of our favorites:

Murderball - This is an amazing documentary about rugby-playing quadriplegics. Not only is the story told perfectly but the main characters are explored in depth. You feel like you are friends with these guys by the end. This is a must see!

King Corn - Susy and I like to eat healthfully. We really keep a close eye on what we are putting into our bodies. King Corn explores that fact that 40% of what the average American consumes is corn-based. We loved the segments with the Fisher-Price Little People Farm. It reminded us of a series of videos that we produced a couple of years ago.

Maxed Out - Maxed out discusses the financial crisis that America as a whole is facing due in large part to credit card debt.

The King Of Kong - This is a fun one that took me back to my childhood. King of Kong focuses on people that try to achieve a world record in the arcade game Donkey Kong. Now while that may sound silly, you would not believe the drama and dedication that surrounds this “world-class sport”.

We mentioned a couple weeks ago that we were in the running for the My Fox Cleveland (Akron-Canton Edition) Hotlist. Well voting ends April 25th. We just wanted to put out another friendly reminder to head over the website and let people know who is the best.
